September 20, 2004 | Field Hockey
BOSTON - Boston University freshman Sarah Shute (Lincolnville, Maine / Somers (N.Y.) has been named America East field hockey Rookie of the Week for her role in leading the Terriers to a pair of wins last week.
Shute scored a goal in both of the Terriers' wins last week. She combined with senior forward Jen Joyce (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) for a second-half breakaway to break a scoreless tie and lift the Terriers to a 1-0 win at Massachusetts on Sept. 15. Three days later, she tipped in a loose ball to score the first of the Terriers three unanswered goals in a 3-1 home win over Brown.
It is the first career weekly award for Shute and the first for any Terrier this season.
Shute is second to Joyce on the team in scoring, tallying two goals and one assist for five points while starting each of the Terriers' six games. She is third on the team in shots with 11.
The Terriers (3-3, 0-0 America East) open conference play when they take on the University of Vermont on Wednesday, Sept. 22. The game, to be played at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt., is schedule to begin at 11 a.m.
