BOSTON - After recording game-winning goals in each of Boston Universtiy's two victories over the weekend, freshman midfielder Holly Wiles (Harare, Zimbabwe) was named America East Co-Rookie of the Week for field hockey, it was announced by the conference office. Wiles shared the honor with Maine's Kim MacDonald. It is the second time this season that Wiles has earned the weekly accolade.
Wiles, who leads BU in goals scored this season with eight, pushed the Terriers to a 2-1 overtime win over Princeton on Sunday with a goal in the fourth minute of the extra session. The goal was set up with a nice feed from sophomore Pam Spuehler (Sudbury, Mass.).
With BU leading Vermont 2-1 on Saturday, Wiles gave the Terriers some breathing room in the second half with a spectacular goal in the 56th minute. The freshman collected a rebound in the middle of the circle and raised the ball over Vermont goalkeeper Ariel Eber, who was sprawled on the ground after making an initial save.
"It was an exceptional goal," said head coach Starr. "It showed a lot of poise and athleticism on Holly's part. She did a great job reading the goalie."
BU went on to post a 4-2 victory over the Catamounts to stay a perfect 3-0 in America East play.
Wiles and the Terriers, who were ranked 19th in the country in the Oct. 11 poll, will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 19, when they visit No. 14 Connecticut in a key regional contest beginning at 7 p.m.
