Women's Tennis Dominates in Fall Opener

BOSTON ??? The Boston University women???s tennis team had an impressive performance at the Brown Invitational on Oct. 1-2. Seeing their first action of the fall, the team controlled the play in both singles and doubles format. In a hidden-dual meet - a meet that is run like a dual, but scored individually - BU beat Brown, Dartmouth and Rutgers in both singles and doubles.
On Saturday, Oct. 1, BU matched up against Dartmouth and Rutgers in singles play and Dartmouth in doubles play. On Sunday, Oct. 2, BU squared off against Brown in singles play and Rutgers and Brown in doubles play.
In the number one singles and doubles, Erin Katims (Boca Raton, Fla.) led the way with a 6-0 overall match record for the weekend, posting three wins in singles and three in doubles.
In number two singles, Laura Ahmes (Sarasota, Fla.) tallied a 2-1 mark for the weekend, defeating Dartmouth and Brown.
Newcomer Cori Lefkowith (Clayton, Mo.) notched a flawless 6-0 record with three wins in number three singles and three wins in number two doubles.
Also with a perfect 6-0 weekend record was Danielle Abraham (Waukesha, Wis.) in the number four singles and number one doubles. Abraham was able to play consistently while switching doubles partners throughout the weekend.
Adding four wins of her own was Monica Shepherd (Austin, Texas) in number five singles and number two doubles. The senior captain went 4-1 over the weekend.
Aimee Charest (Somerset, Mass.), Laura Steikema (Amsterdam, The Netherlands), Gabbi Hernandez (Palo Alto, Calif.) and Katarina Draganova (Coral Springs, Fla.) also saw action for the Terriers.
BU next hits the road for the USTA National Tennis Center Women???s College Tennis Invitational from Oct. 8-10. Twenty-two of the top-ranking women???s NCAA Division I programs will be competing in the 3rd annual ITA event.
