Women???s Tennis Sweeps Seton Hall to Close Fall Season

BOSTON ??? The Boston University women???s tennis team swept Seton Hall, 7-0, in a dual match at the Track & Tennis Center on Nov. 5 in the Terriers??? last action of the fall season. BU won all eight singles and four doubles matches, while only allowing the Pirates to win one set in No. 8 singles.
In doubles, the duos of senior Monica Shepherd (Austin, Texas) and sophomore Gina Sabatino (Waltham, Mass.), freshmen Danielle Abraham (Waukesha, Wis.) and Cori Lefkowith (Clayton, Mo.), junior Erin Katims (Boca Raton, Fla.) and freshman Yana Sadovskaya (Riga, Latvia), and sophomore Laura Stiekema (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) and junior Gabrielle Hernandez (Palo Alto, Calif.), each posted wins in Nos. 1-4, respectively.
In the top-two doubles, the Terriers won by 8-4 counts, while the third doubles recorded a 8-1 victory and the No. 4 doubles earned an 8-3 win.
BU continued its dominating performance, winning every set in Nos. 1-7 singles, starting with Katims at No. 1 against Viviana Figueroa (6-3, 6-1). In the No. 2 position was Sabatino, with a win (6-0, 6-2) over Nadja Sein. Rookie Lefkowith put in an impressive performance in the third slot, beating Danielle Viola, 6-0, 6-0. No. 4 saw Abraham top Sylvia Jones, 6-2, 6-4.
In the bottom half of the singles, Sadovskaya earned the win over Amanda El-Toby (6-1, 6-1), Shepherd downed Veronika Gerka (6-1, 6-2) and senior Aimee Charest (Somerst, Mass.) topped Iva Gyergina, 6-4, 3-0, before an injury forced them to retire. Finally, in the No. 8 singles, Stiekema won in a third set (7-5, 4-6, 10-8) over Jennifer Seide.
The Terriers now take a two-month break before opening the spring season at home versus Montreal on Jan. 20 at 4:00 p.m.
