BOSTON ??? Seniors Michelle Bussichella, Lindsay Lewis and Danica Strutt will serve as tri-captains for the Boston University lacrosse team during the 2006 season, as was announced by head coach Liza Kelly. The Terriers have also released their 2006 schedule, which features contests against three 2005 NCAA quarterfinalists.
All three of the senior tri-captains were selected to the America East All-Conference First Team in 2005 and the trio will lead the way for the Terriers in 2006 as they attempt to stay among the elite lacrosse programs in the country.
Lewis, an attacker, is a three-time all-region selection and she was named to the All-America third team following a junior campaign in which she tallied 43 goals and 10 assists. Her 53 points were good for fourth on the team. Strutt was a first-time all-region pick in 2005 after anchoring a defense that ranked third in the nation in goals allowed (6.93). She finished second on the team in caused turnovers with 27. Bussichella also served as one of the Terriers??? top defenders as a junior and she will team up with Strutt again in 2006 to help BU maintain it position as one of the most stifling defenses in the country.
The Terriers are coming off their best season in program history, as they posted an 18-2 record and reached the 2005 NCAA quarterfinals after being ranked as high as third in the country. Three schools who also reached the quarterfinals last spring (North Carolina, Georgetown, Dartmouth) highlight this season???s schedule. Dartmouth advanced to the national semifinals before falling to eventual champion Northwestern.
BU will open its 2006 campaign with four road match-ups, beginning with a game at Massachusetts on March 1 and followed by contests at William & Mary, North Carolina and Hofstra. The Terriers will welcome George Mason to Nickerson Field on March 18 for their home opener before continuing a three-game homestand that will feature a contest against Yale in addition to the team???s America East opener versus Stony Brook. BU will close out the March portion of its schedule with a road tilt against cross-town rival Boston College.
The Terriers will play nine contests in April to close out the regular season. Following road contests at UMBC and Harvard, BU will play host to Georgetown for a Sunday matinee on April 9. The Terriers will travel to Binghamton for mid-week matchup before closing the non-conference portion of its home schedule against Oregon on April 15.
The final four games of the regular season include a home contest against Vermont, followed by road trips to Albany and Dartmouth. BU will wrap up the regular season at home on April 29 against conference rival New Hampshire.
