Terriers Defeat Middle Tennessee In Spring Break Opener

BOCA RATON, FL--The Terrier women's tennis team marked a successful debut in its annual Spring Break trip to Florida with a 5-2 win over Middle Tennessee on Thursday, March 10.
B.U. was scheduled to play Florida Atlantic but rain cancelled the match.
The victory was the seventh straight for the Terriers who are now 7-2 this spring.
B.U. opened by winning all three singles matches, one by default, to take a 1-0 lead entering the singles play.
At number one doubles, sophomore Erin Katims (Baton Rouge, FL) and freshman Cheri Lapane (Reading, MA) posted an 8-2 win over Jennifer Slaschka and Anne Siljestrom, while the tandem of junior Monica Shepherd (Austin, TX) and freshman Gina Sabatino (Waltham, MA) defeated Ana Cibils and Emily Veit, 8-2, at second singles. Then, at number three doubles, junior Aimee Charest (Somerset, MA) and Kati Draganova (Coral Springs, FL) won by default.
The Terriers wrapped up the win by taking numbers two, four and five singles in matches that were contested, while Lapane won by default at number six singles.
At number two, Sabatino posted a 5-7, 6-0 (10-7) win over Cibils, while Shepherd defeated Veit in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, at number four. Draganova also needed just two sets to win her number five singles match over Jacqui Williams, 6-0, 6-1.
The Terriers' two losses came at number one singles where Slaschka bested Katims, 6-1, 6-1, and at number three where Siljestrom defeated Charest, 6-1, 6-3.
