No. 11 Terriers Earn Big Win Over No. 4 Hoyas
April 11, 2005 | Women's Lacrosse
BOSTON - Senior midfielder Alyssa Trudel (Shoreham, VT) scored three goals and dished out two assists to lead No. 11 Boston University to a 10-8 victory over No. 4 Georgetown Hoyas at Nickerson Field on Monday, April 11.
The win over the Hoyas is the biggest victory for fourth-year head coach Liza Shoemaker - and arguably one of the best wins in program history. It was just the third time in the program's 18-year history that the Terriers have knocked off a team ranked in the top five in the nation. B.U. defeated fourth-ranked North Carolina, 14-7, on March 11, 2001 and the fifth-ranked Tar Heels, 7-4, on March 17, 2000.
B.U. (10-1, 2-0) pulled ahead in the first half, taking a 4-0 lead on goals from four different players. The Terriers took a 6-2 advantage into the half.
Georgetown (8-3, 3-0) gained the momentum early in the second half, but it didn't translate into offensive output as the Hoyas could only manage to score one goal in the first 19 minutes of the half. A Coco Stanwick goal at 27:03 made the score 6-3, but the Hoyas wouldn't score again until the 10:23 mark. BU added a goal by freshman attacker Jenny Hauser (Alexandria, VA) during that span to take a 7-3 avantage.
The Terriers led, 10-6, after Hauser's second goal with 2:02 remaining in the game. The Hoyas' Lauryn Bernier scored two quick goals at 1:47 and 1:19 to pull her team to within 10-8, but they could get no closer.
Hauser and Trudel led B.U. with three goals each. Freshman attacker Lauren Morton (Glenside, PA) scored two goals and junior attacker Lindsay Lewis (Glenelg, MD) and sophomore attacker Angie Martin (Catonsville, MD) each had single-goal efforts.
Stanwick had a team-leading three scores for the Hoyas.
Senior goalkeeper Anne Sheridan (Baltimore, MD) made a game-high seven saves in the victory. Sarah Robinson made six saves for the Hoyas.
Georgetown held an 11-9 advantage on the draw, but B.U. won seven of the first nine draws in the game.
B.U. next hosts America East foe Binghamton on Sunday, April 17 at noon.
