Syracuse Defeats B.U. Women's Tennis, 5-2

BOSTON - Boston University women's tennis fell to the Big East opponent Syracuse, 5-2, in its final regular-season match on Sunday, April 17. Freshman Gina Sabatino (Waltham, Mass.) picked up the Terriers only singles win.
The Terriers (9-9) now prepare for the America East Championship on April 29 - May 1 in New Haven, Conn.
B.U. won the doubles point but dropped five of six singles matches.
Sabatino defeated the Orange's Catherine Zawadzki, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. Junior Aimee Charest (Somerset, Mass.) won the first set, 6-4, at No. 4, but then dropped the match, 6-3, 6-3, to Jessica Juricek. Junior Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) took her opponent, Pearly Leung, to three sets at No. 6 singles before falling, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
B.U.'s No. 2 doubles team of Sabatino and junior Monica Shepherd (Austin, Texas) won, 8-3. The No. 3 team of Charest and Katie Draganova (Coral Springs, Fla.) also won 8-3.
