April 17, 2005 | Women's Lacrosse
BOSTON - Senior goalkeeper Anne Sheridan (Baltimore, MD) and senior midfielder Alyssa Trudel (Shoreham, VT) were among 18 selected as nominees for the prestigious Tewaaraton Trophy which is presented to the nation's top collegiate lacrosse player.
Sheridan and Trudel, who have guided No. 10 Boston University to a 10-1 record, represent the first-ever Terriers nominated in the five-year history of the award. The two are also the only America East players nominated.
While guiding the Terriers to their best start in the program's 18-year history, Sheridan ranks among the nation's best goalkeepers. The 5-7 goalkeeper is second in the nation in save percentage (.590) and fourth in goals against average (7.05) while anchoring a defense unit that has allowed 10 or more goals just twice this season. In her career, Sheridan has made 421 saves, which ranks as the second-highest save total in program history.
A two-time team captain, Trudel is the Terriers' leading scorer this season with 26 goals and 15 assists for 41 points. A dominant player in the midfield, Trudel also leads B.U. in ground balls (26) and caused turnovers (18) while ranking second in draw controls (24). She has had multiple-point efforts in all 11 games this season including a three-goal, two-assist performance in the Terriers' 10-8 upset win over No. 4 Georgetown on Monday, April 11. The 5-8 midfielder is the program's all-time assists leader (90) while ranking second in career points (216) and third in career goals (126).
The list of 18 nominees for the award will be narrowed to five finalists before the award is presented in Washington, D.C., on June 2.
