Sabatino Leads Terriers On America East All-Conference Team

WALLINGFORD, CT-Terrier freshman Gina Sabatino led four Terriers on the America East All-Conference Women's Tennis Team in voting conducted by the Conference's seven coaches.
The announcement was made Thursday night at the Conference banquet held prior to the post-season tournament. The championships, which begin on Friday, April 29, are team-match format with the finals slated for Sunday. The team champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The Terriers, who enter the competition as the top-seed, have won the last 12 America East Women's Championships in which they have participated. The last six years they have advanced to the NCAAs.
Sabatino (Waltham, MA), playing her first collegiate season, was voted the Conference Rookie of the Year. Her overall record in singles was 12-1 as she alternated between numbers two and three.
In addition to her Rookie of the Year honor, she was named First Team All-Conference at number two singles and combined with junior captain Monica Shepherd (Austin, TX) to be named First Team number two doubles.
Also named First Team as singles players were junior Aimee Charest (Somerset, MA) at number five and Shepherd at number six.
Junior Laura Ahmes (East Sarasota, FL), who played most of the season at number one singles, was voted Second Team All-Conference, while freshman Katie Draganova (Sofia, Bulgaria) was a Second Team pick at number five singles.
In doubles, Ahmes and junior Cheri Lapane (Reading, MA) were Second Team All-Conference selections at number one.
