No. 11 Terriers Dominate Retrievers, 16-4

BOSTON -Freshman attacker Jenny Hauser (Alexandria, VA) was one of seven Terriers to find the back of the net against UMBC, scoring a game-high four goals and dishing out one assist as No. 11 Boston University posted a 16-4 victory at Nickerson Field on Saturday, April 9.
The Terriers have won five straight games en route to a 9-1 record, the best start in program history. B.U. improves to 7-0 at home in 2005, as the Terriers have out-scored their opponents, 103-43, at Nickerson Field.
Freshman midfielder Lauren Morton (Glenside, PA) and classmate Hauser combined for six of the Terriers' 10 first-half goals as B.U. built an 10-1 lead by intermission. The Terriers out-shot the Retrievers, 21-8, in the first half and senior goalkeeper Anne Sheridan (Baltimore, MD) made five of her seven saves before the break.
UMBC (2-6, 0-1) chipped away at the lead early in the second half, as Jocena Venditti and Anna Jacobs scored back-to-back goals over a 13 second span to cut the deficit to 11-3 at 18:14. But the Terriers scored five of the final six goals in the game to keep the Retrievers out of reach.
Hauser had three draw controls and one ground ball to go along with her game-high five points. She leads B.U. with 25 goals on the season.
Junior attacker Lindsay Lewis (Glenelg, MD) had three goals and an assist while Morton finished with three goals on four shots. Junior attacker Mary Beth Miller (Berlin, NJ) contributed a goal and a game-high three assists, raising her season assists total to a team-high 19. Senior midfielder Alyssa Trudel (Shoreham, VT) had two goals and an assist and junior midfielder Kaitlyn Cuneo (Marlton, NJ) had two goals. Sophomore attacker Noelle Hopper (Ellicott City, MD) also contributed a goal.
Kelly Foirani led UMBC with a goal and an assist.
B.U. played its cleanest game of the season, committing just seven turnovers and six fouls. The Retrievers had 19 turnovers, 14 of which were caused by the Terriers. Trudel had a game-high four caused turnovers.
Sheridan had seven saves and three caused turnovers in 53:55 of action. Freshman Jenna Golden (Suffern, NY) relieved Sheridan for the final 6:05 and made one save. UMBC's Kristina Raab made a game-high 12 saves.
Up next, B.U. will host fourth-ranked Georgetown on Monday, April 11, at 4:00 p.m. The game marks the first-ever meeting between the Terriers and the Hoyas in women's lacrosse.
