Women's Tennis Falls At UMass, 4-3

AMHERST, Mass. - The Boston University women's tennis team lost a close match, falling at Massachusetts, 4-3, on Saturday, April 9. The Terriers won the doubles point but dropped four of six singles matches.
B.U. won the doubles point but the Minutewomen came back to take four of the six singles matches to earn the 4-3 win. The victory wasn't clinched until UMass' Michele Spiess won a three-set match over the Terriers' Gina Sabatino at No. 1. Spiess won 6-1, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3.
UMass also won at number two with Masha Pozar beating Erin Katims, 6-1, 6-1.
The Terriers' Aimee Charest got off to a good start against Sasha Edelstein, but fell in three sets, 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3.
B.U. won at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, as Katie Draganova beat Dorothy Iwanowicz, 6-4, 6-0 and Monica Shepherd won in three sets over Susan Johnson, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The Minutewomen won at number six, as junior Jana Bartoloni bested Cheri Lapane, 6-2, 6-3.
In the doubles, UMass won at number one, as Johnson and Iwanowicz edged Katims and Laura Ahmes, 8-6. B.U. won at two and three, with Sabatino and Shepherd defeating the UMass team of Pozar and Spiess, 8-5, at two, and Charest and Draganova beat Edelstein and Bartoloni, 8-5.
