BOSTON - After guiding the B.U. women's lacrosse team to its best season in program history, senior goalkeeper Anne Sheridan (Baltimore, MD) was honored as the 2005 Most Valuable Player at the team's annual post-season banquet on May 17.
In addition, sophomore Alex Mount (Northport, NY) and freshman Lauren Morton (Glenside, PA) received the team's Most Improved Player awards.
A First Team All-American selection, Sheridan led the Terriers to a program-best 18-2 record and a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals. The 5-7 goalkeeper led the nation in save percentage (.573) while ranking fourth in goals against average (7.15). Sheridan was also named Inside Lacrosse Magazine Goalkeeper of the Year, America East Player of the Year, and was a Tewaaraton Trophy candidate.
Mount receives the team's Most Improved Player award for the second consecutive season. A sophomore defender, Mount appeared in 14-of-20 games in 2005. As the first defender off the bench, Mount saw action in both NCAA Tournament games and both America East Championship games. The 5-6 defender contributed seven ground balls and seven caused turnovers on the season.
Morton was a dominant force both in the midfield and on the attack in her freshman campaign. The 5-8 attacker was the team's fourth-leading goal scorer with 38 goals in 20 games. Responsible for taking the majority of B.U.'s draws, Morton ranked second on the team in draw controls with 44. She also contributed 37 ground balls, 17 caused turnovers, and three game-winning goals.
B.U. embarks on its two-week training to Australia on Wednesday, June 1.
