BOSTON - After leading the Terriers to their most successful campaign in the program's 18-year history, Boston University head coach Liza Shoemaker has been named IWLCA North Region Coach of the Year.
Shoemaker joined Northwestern's Kelly Amonte-Hiller (Mid-Atlantic) and Duke's Kirsten Kimmel (South) on the ballot for IWLCA Division I Coach of the Year. Amonte-Hiller, a former B.U. assistant coach who guided Northwestern to the NCAA Championship title, received the IWLCA Division I Coach of the Year honor.
In just her fourth season at the helm, Shoemaker guided B.U. to an 18-2 overall record and a 6-0 mark in America East play. Along the way, the Terriers set single-season records for consecutive wins (14) and home wins (13). B.U. captured the America East regular-season and Championship titles and reached the NCAA quarterfinals. The Terriers finished the season ranked second in the nation in winning percentage (.900) and scoring margin (+6.65), third in scoring offense (13.65) and scoring defense (7.0), and 18th in draw controls (12.2) and caused turnovers (10.15).
Shoemaker was also named Inside Lacrosse Magazine Division I Coach of the Year and America East Coach of the Year. This is the second IWLCA honor of her career. She was also a nominee for IWLCA North Coach of the Year following the 2003 season in which the Terriers posted a 14-5 record in just her second season.
The Terriers are currently taking part in a 15-day training tour in Australia that began on June 1.
