BOSTON - In its first community service event of the year, the Boston University women's lacrosse team participated in the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure 5k Run on Sunday, Sept. 18.
Along with over 5,000 participants, the Terriers helped to raise over $600,000 for breast cancer research at this Boston event. In addition to raising money to eradicate breast cancer, the race also helps to educate men and women on the importance of early detection, while promoting health awareness and teaching valuable lessons in cancer survival. Mayor Tom Menino and numerous cancer survivors spoke to the crowds about their own personal battles and triumphs as well as thanking the thousands of people for all for their hard work and dedication.
Athletic trainer Kate Mitchell and freshman Sarah Dalton (Cornwall, Vt.) were the Terriers top two finishers in the 5,000-meter race while freshman Lindsay Love, junior Kait Gentry and senior Mary Beth Miller closely followed suit. Mitchell finished the 3.2 mile race in 22:16, placing her 94th overall, while Dalton finished 116th with a time of 22:53.
