Terriers Draw Wake Forest in NCAA First Round

BOSTON - The Boston University women's soccer team (11-6-3) will take on fourth-seeded Wake Forest in the first round of the NCAA tournament, as announced on ESPNews Monday evening. The match-up will be played on Friday, Nov. 16 at Boston College's Newton Soccer Field. No. 17 BC (11-5-3) will host Connecticut (12-5-1) in the site's other first-round game.
BU is the only team among the four squads participating in Chestnut Hill to win its respective conference championship. Boston College lost to Florida State in the Atlantic Coast Conference quarterfinals and Wake Forest fell to the Seminoles in the semifinals two days later. Connecticut dropped a 1-0 decision to Georgetown in the Big East quarterfinals.
Friday's first-round game will be the Terriers seventh appearance - third consecutive - in the NCAA tournament after earning the America East's automatic bid on Saturday with their 2-1 win over New Hampshire. It was BU's fifth conference title and third in the last five years.
No. 18 Wake Forest finished second in the ACC with a 6-2-2 conference mark. They fell to Florida State in the semifinals by a 5-2 margin, after defeating Duke, 1-0, in overtime. Jill Hutchinson is the Demon Deacons top offensive threat with 10 goals and two assist for 22 points. Laura Morse and Amanda Barasha have split time in net this season and Morse has earned a 0.97 goals-against average, while Barasha owns a 1.04 GAA.
Friday's match up will be the first meeting between the Terriers and the Demon Deacons.
The Terriers faced two teams that earned bids into the NCAA tourney - BC and top-seeded Stanford. BU fell to the Eagles, 1-0, and dropped a 2-0 decision to the Cardinal in the season opener.
