BOSTON - The top two field hockey teams in the America East will meet on Sunday with a conference title and a trip to the NCAA tournament on the line, as No. 13 Boston University (16-5) attempts to earn its third straight league crown against No. 15 Albany (15-4). Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. at Jack Barry Field.
The Terriers, who aiming for their seventh conference championship, defeated Maine in each of the past two conference title games, including a 4-1 decision last year.
Both teams advanced with semifinal victories on Friday, as BU cruised to a 5-2 victory over UNH before Albany won a 2-1 overtime thriller against Vermont. The Great Danes are making their first ever appearance in the league title game.
The two squads met on Jack Barry Field on Oct. 20 with the Terriers posing a 3-1 win. BU got goals from seniors Hadley Adams and Hayley Hamada and sophomore Suus Dekker and did not allow a shot on goal until the final minute of play.
The Terriers hold a 6-1 lead in the all-time series with Albany's lone win coming in the 2005 season.
Sunday's game will mark the final time that BU's eight-member senior class will play at Jack Barry Field. The class needs just one more win to tie the school record of 60 set by the Class of 2007.
