ALBANY, N.Y. - The Boston University field hockey team suffered its second conference loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, as Albany broke a scoreless tie in the 67th minute to post a 1-0 victory at Alumni Turf Field. The Terriers move to 8-9 overall and 2-2 in America East play with the loss.
The game was rematch of last year's America East title game, and this time around it was battle for first place in the conference standings. Albany, which evened its overall record at 9-9, will travel to face New Hampshire next Sunday for the right to host the America East tournament, as both squads are 3-1 in league play.
Albany scored the game-winner on one of its eight second-half penalty corners, as senior Michele Polizois converted from the top of the circle on assists from classmate Michelle Simpson and junior Jess Lindsey at 66:15.
Play was quite even in the first half, as each team earned two corners and the Terrires held a 3-2 lead in shots at halftime. In the second half, the Great Danes outshot BU by an 11-2 margin and held an 8-2 advantage in corners.
Sophomore goaltender Kim Kastuk made five saves for the Terriers, while senior Ashley Ross recorded four saves to pick up the shutout in the Albany cage.
The Terriers will return to action on Wednesday (Oct. 29) when they play host to Harvard at 3 p.m. in their final home contest of the season.
