BOSTON - In a match-up between the two stingiest defenses in the America East Conference, the Boston University women's soccer team (12-5-1, 7-0-0 AE) heads down to Hartford (8-5-4, 4-2-1 AE) on Sunday, Oct. 26, for a 2 p.m. kick off. The Terriers are riding a nine-game unbeaten streak and are one win away from tying a program record of seven consecutive wins, while the Hawks have already clinched a playoff berth and have won three of its last four games.
BU and Hartford have each allowed just 11 goals this season, and the Terriers' 0.60 goals-against average and 10 shutouts rank as the best in the America East.
Last Thursday, BU captured its sixth regular-season crown and fifth outright with its 2-1 win over UMBC. Senior Marisha Schumacher-Hodge, a nominee for the America East Fan's Choice Player of the Year, and sophomore Corie Halasz found the back of the net, while sophomore Janie Reilly picked up the win in net.
Reilly owns an impressive 0.58 goals-against average, which is good for tops in the league and 21st in the nation. As a team, BU is 15th nationally in shutout percentage (0.588) and 16th in GAA.
Hartford, which is currently fourth in the conference, has outscored its opponents, 11-3, over the last four games and Lauren Aldred leads the league with eight goals - three game-winners - in 17 games. Teammate Kacey Busque is the conference leader in assists (7) and Lauren Brodeur has been the goalkeeper of record with an 8-5-4 mark, 0.63 GAA and .866 save percentage.
With a win against Hartford on Sunday, BU would complete the first unbeaten and untied season in America East since 2000, which was the last time the Terriers went undefeated in conference action.
The Terriers will host their America East Women's Soccer Championship semifinal game at Nickerson Field on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.
