BOSTON - For just the second time in program history, Boston University had six of its student-athletes earn Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association (IWLCA) Northeast All-Region honors, as announced on Thursday. Senior Lauren Morton (Glenside, Pa.) and juniors Sarah Dalton (Cornwall, Vt.) and Kelly Munroe (Westwood, Mass.) were all named to the first team, while senior Molly Collins (Winchester, Mass.) and sophomores Rachel Klein (Forest Hill, Md.) and Traci Landy (Seaford, N.Y.) earned second-team accolades.
This marks the second consecutive year that Dalton earned a spot on the first team, while Morton moves up to the top squad after receiving second-team honors as a junior. Collins is a repeat pick on the second team, while the other three are first-time honorees. BU also had six all-region selections during the 2005 campaign.
All six are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-America teams, which will be announced on May 29. BU was one of only seven schools to have six all-region honorees, joining Northwestern, Maryland, North Carolina, Penn, Princeton and Syracuse. The Terriers made up half of the 12 student-athletes from the America East Conference that received all-region recognition.
Dalton, the America East Player of the Year, set a new program single-season high with 71 goals this year, also notching a team-best 84 points - good for the third-best single-season mark in BU history. The junior is currently fifth on BU's all-time list with 156 goals and is sixth in points (182), while also ranking third in career draw controls (133) after setting the team pace with 49 this season.
Morton, who also earned a spot on the America East All-Conference Second Team, ranked second on the team with 57 goals and 65 points, collecting 36 ground balls, 47 draw controls and causing a team-high 29 turnovers. The co-captain set a new program career mark this season with 182 draw controls. She also leaves the team ranking fourth all-time in career goals (160), seventh in career points (179), third in caused turnovers (92) and sixth in ground balls (144).
Both Morton and Dalton notched at least one point in each of the games they participated in this season.
Munroe, the Most Outstanding Player at the America East Championship and an all-conference first-team selection, was a stalwart on defense for the Terriers, snatching 31 ground balls and forcing opponents into 27 turnovers. The defender is tied for 12th on BU's career caused turnovers list with 43.
Collins also earned a spot on the America East second team, accumulating 45 points on 27 goals this season, while collecting 35 ground balls, controlling 42 draws and causing 26 turnovers. The co-captain ends her career ranked fifth in program history with 80 caused turnovers and seventh with 116 draw controls.
Klein turned in an impressive season in the cage, posting the eighth-best save percentage (.513) and ninth-lowest goals against average (8.32) in the nation. Her 181 saves set the program single-season mark. A second-team all-conference selection and a member of the America East All-Tournament Team, Klein played every minute in goal for the Terriers this season after starting only three games last year and proved to be the backbone of an imposing BU defense.
Landy followed up a strong freshman campaign by collecting 56 points this season on the strength of 44 goals, controlling 45 draws and earning a spot on the conference's second team and all-academic team. Already 15th on the program's all-time goals chart with 81, Landy scored three goals in the America East title game to earn a spot on the all-tournament team.
The Terriers finished the year with a record of 18-3, matching the school record for wins in a season set in 2005. BU won its record fourth straight America East title and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in as many seasons, where they reached the quarterfinal round for just the second time in program history.
