BOSTON - Juniors Sarah Dalton, Kelly Munroe, sophomore Traci Landy and Lindsay Lewis ('06) have been selected to tryout for the U.S. Lacrosse Women's National Team, as was announced Monday. After cutting the pool from 220 athletes to 83, the remaining hopefuls will return to training Aug. 1-3 in the second round of tryouts at UMBC.
Dalton, a First-Team All-America honoree, and Landy, who was named to the All-Region Second Team, helped power the Terriers' offense to impressive levels. Dalton and Landy ended the season with 84 and 56 points, respectively, including 71 goals from the former.
Munroe was a stalwart on defense for BU, picking up First-Team All-Region honors along with the Most Outstanding Player award at the America East tournament. The junior recovered 31 ground balls and caused 27 turnovers during the season.
Lewis played for BU from 2003-06, ranking fourth all-time in career points with 232 and first with 187 career goals. Lewis helped the Terriers to one of their best seasons in program history in 2005, earning an 18-2 record, including a 14-game win streak and an NCAA quarterfinals appearance.
Players are vying for spots on the U.S. women's elite and developmental teams, squads from which the U.S. women's national team is selected. The 2009 edition of the International Women's Lacrosse Association's World Cup will be held in Prague, Czech Republic, next summer.
