The Boston University women's lacrosse team recently took part in a community service event, assisting the staff of the Parents Assisting Special Educators (PASE) organization at its annual fundraising event. The dance and silent auction was held at Nashua Country Club in Nashua, N.H., on Nov. 7, and featured such activities as a silent auction, a raffle table and live music and dancing.
Members of the lacrosse team fronted the raffle-ticket sales at the event and helped raise over $1,900 through ticket sales alone. The 2009 fundraiser ended up setting a new record for total amount raised, as over $20,000 was generated to go towards sponsoring seminars, support training for aides and teachers, and purchasing supplies.
Neil and Lori Rogers, parents of BU junior lacrosse player Mandy Rogers, founded PASE as a 501(c)3 organization 10 years ago and the couple has been raising funds for special education for over 14 years. 15 years ago, Neil and Lori's son Craig was diagnosed with autism and it soon became apparent that the special education departments at southern New Hampshire schools needed support.
The Nov. 7 event was the 10th PASE dance and silent auction that the group has organized. Considered to be the "PTO for special needs programs," PASE supports all special needs programming in the southern New Hampshire region.
The women's lacrosse team will continue its fundraising efforts at its second annual dodgeball tournament which will take place on Sunday, Nov. 22 at the BU Track and Tennis Center at 9:30 a.m. All proceeds from the tournament benefit the Susan B. Komen organization for breast cancer research, education, prevention, and treatment.
The event is open to anyone over the age of 18 years old, including BU students faculty staff and alums. For more information about the charity tournament, please visit the tournament website.
