NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Senior midfielder Sarah Dalton of the Boston University lacrosse team has been named the Vermont Female Athlete of the Year, as announced by the Vermont Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association during the organization's annual banquet held Sunday on the campus of Norwich University. Dalton, a native of Cornwall, Vt., and graduate of Middlebury Union High School, led the nation with 91 goals this season, fifth-most in NCAA history.
Recently named a first-team All-American by the the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), Dalton capped her stellar career with perhaps the finest campaign in program history, scoring 91 goals to shatter her own previous BU record of 71 goals in a single season. She finished with 102 points to tie that program record as well.
Dalton was a unanimous selection for her second straight America East Player of the Year award and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the America East Championship after scoring a tournament-record 11 goals to help the Terriers to their fifth straight conference crown.
She leaves BU as the program's all-time leading scorer with 284 points and 247 goals. A first-team All-American last season and one of 25 nominees for the Tewaaraton Trophy in each of her final two years, Dalton is also a member of the US Lacrosse Developmental Team. A captain of this year's Terriers, she led the squad to a 15-4 overall record as the team finished their season ranked 11th in the nation.
