The 13th-ranked Boston University field hockey team (7-4, 1-0 AE) returns to Jack Barry Field this weekend for a pair of games, as Fairfield (7-5, 0-1 AE) comes to town for an America East contest on Saturday before the Terriers host Dartmouth (8-2) on Sunday. Both games are set for 2 p.m. starts.
The Terriers are coming off a split during a busy road weekend, as they posted a 6-0 shutout of Vermont last Friday in their America East opener in Burlington before dropping a hard-fought 1-0 contest at No. 13 Duke on Sunday.
Fairfield is 7-2 in its last nine contests with victories over Missouri State, Lehigh, Sacred Heart, Siena, Holy Cross, Brown and most recently, Saint Joseph's. The Stags fell to Albany, 3-0, in their league opener last Saturday.
Junior Marit Westerberg leads the Stags in points (19) and goals (7), while seniors Anne Nieuwenhuis (6g) and Amanda Sullivan (5g, 2a) have tallied 12 points each. Senior Melanie Leo has a team-high seven assists. Sophomore Maddy Sposito has earned nine starts in goal and has a 2.52 goals-against average a .769 save percentage.
Dartmouth is enjoying one of its best starts ever through 10 games and has won four of its last five contests, including a 4-3 road win over New Hampshire on Wednesday. The Big Green also has wins over Penn, Holy Cross, Brown, Bryant, Pacific, Missouri State and Fairfield.
Junior Kelly Hood is tied for second in the nation in goals with 15 and has added a pair of assists for 32 points. Senior Kelly McHenry has registered 22 points (5g, 12a) and classmate Virginia Peisch has 21 points on the strength of a nation-best 17 assists. Junior goalkeeper Meagan Vakiener has a 3.85 goals-against average.
BU is a perfect 5-0 all-time against Fairfield and 9-1 in its 10 meetings with Dartmouth.
