
Terriers Fall to Binghamton, 59-53

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Boston University women's basketball team (14-13, 11-4 AE) dropped a 59-53 decision to Binghamton (18-10, 11-4 AE) on Wednesday night at the Events Center. Junior Caroline Stewart and sophomore Chantell Alford each scored 13 points in the loss.
Stewart earned America East Player of the Game honors as she shot 5-for-13 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free-throw line to go along with eight rebounds, two assists and one steal. Alford added another 13 points and she dished out three assists and earned two steals in 36 minutes.
Binghamton held the 42-32 edge in rebounding and scored nine second-chance points off 10 offensive boards, while going 11-for-17 from the charity stripe. The Terriers were more efficient from the line, but only made it there eight times, converting on seven of those chances.
The game was as close as four points, 51-47, with four minutes remaining in the contest, but the Bearcats went to the line six times in the last three minutes to push ahead for the six-point victory.
In the first five minutes of the game, BU was moving the ball well but held just a slim 6-4 edge at 15:28 with three different Terriers netting a bucket. The Terriers then stretched it to 10 points, aided by a 12-2 run that was capped off with Moran hitting a 3-pointer in front of the Bearcats' bench.
After trailing by as much as 11 points, the Bearcats fought their way back into the game and reduced the lead to five, 19-14, at 5:51.They came as close as three points with four minutes remaining in the stanza, however, the Terriers' 3-point shooting gave them an edge heading into the locker rooms. Neither team made it to the free-throw line in the first half, and Binghamton held the 21-19 advantage in rebounding.
In the second half, Binghamton tied it out four straight points, 27-27, and then two possessions later it took its first lead of the game on a pull-up jumper, 29-28. After the Bearcats made their comeback the score remained within one possession with both teams trading leads through the first 10 minutes.
At 8:59, Binghamton knotted the score up, 43-43, as Jasbriell Swain banked a 3-pointer from the top of the arc. After tying the game the Bearcats began to build a lead and took an eight-point advantage, 57-49, as the Terriers began to get into foul trouble. Down the stretch, Moran went in for a layup with nine seconds left to draw the Terriers to within six points, 59-53, but that was as close as they would get as time expired.
The Terriers will host Vermont on Saturday (Feb. 26) afternoon in the regular-season finale. In a pre-game ceremony BU will honor its three seniors - Krystyn McIntyre, Kat Briggs, and Kerry Cashman.
