BOSTON - The Boston University lacrosse team will play is final home game of the season on Wednesday (April 20) when it welcomes crosstown rival Harvard to Nickerson Field. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and all proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.
BU (6-7), which is in the midst of a three-game losing streak, will look to improve to 4-0 against the Ivy League. The Terriers will enter the midweek game following a pair of tough losses to then-No.14 Boston College, 10-7, on Wednesday and then-No. 7/10 Albany, 12-11, on Saturday.
In each of its six wins, BU's defense limited the opposition to single-digit goal totals and will be put to the test against a Crimson offense that averages 12.36 goals per game.
On the offensive side, sophomore Danielle Etrasco's 39 goals and 47 points pace a Terrier offense that has scored 11.00 markers per game. Senior Corcoran Downey has registered team highs in both ground balls (31) and caused turnovers (18), and classmate Rachel Collins ranks third in America East with 40 draw controls.
Harvard (7-4), which is 6-1 in its last seven games, will enter the contest on a three-game winning streak. During those contests, the Crimson defense also allowed no more than nine goals per game.
Sophomore Jenn VanderMeulen paces the squad in points (39) and goals (35), while junior Melanie Baskind has collected a team-high five assists and 21 ground balls. Sophomore Danielle Tetreault leads the Crimson in draw controls (22) and junior Ellen Gleason has notched a team-high 10 caused turnovers.
BU, which will look to avoid its first four-game losing streak since the 2004 season, is 9-9 all-time against Harvard. The Terriers have won six straight meetings against the Crimson.
