CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After a record-breaking performance against Vermont, sophomore Danielle Etrasco of the Boston University lacrosse team has been named the America East Player of the Week, the conference office announced.
Etrasco single-handedly outscored the Catamounts in a must-win game for the Terriers, as the sophomore attacker recorded nine goals in a 16-8 win on Saturday. The victory secured BU a spot in the America East tournament for the 13th consecutive year.
The Massapequa, N.Y., native, who scored on all nine of her shot attempts, set a program single-game record while also tying the America East single-game mark. The nine markers, which surpassed two-time First Team All-American Sarah Dalton's ('09) eight tallies in 2009, were the most registered in a game in the NCAA this season.
The sophomore, who earned her third player of the week honor of the season, ranks second in the conference in goals (53), third in points (61) and fourth in draw controls (40).
As the No. 2 seed, the Terriers will face No. 3 UMBC in the America East tournament semifinals on Thursday (May 5) at Albany's Jack Fallon Field. Opening draw is set at 3:30 p.m.
