CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After helping the 15th-ranked Boston University field hockey team close out the regular season with two wins, freshman Sofi Laurito has been named the America East Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Laurito scored her second goal is as many games on Saturday, recording the Terriers' third tally in a 6-2 triumph over Fairfield to help the team finish in second place in the America East standings with a 4-1 conference record. BU closed the regular season on Sunday with a 2-0 road win over Yale.
After the Fairfield goalkeeper came out to defend a pass from outside the circle, Laurito corralled the ball after it went off the goalie's pads and created space before slotting a shot to the boards from the middle of the circle in the 16th minute.
Laurito played in 14 games during the regular season and made 11 starts. She opened the scoring with her first collegiate goal in last Sunday's 4-3 double-overtime win against then-No. 10 Northeastern.
