The No. 12 Boston University field hockey team (7-4, 1-0 America East) returns to the turf on Saturday (Oct. 6) when it heads north to take on Vermont (1-9, 0-1 AE) in an America East contest. Game time is set for noon. Live video of the contest will be provided free of charge at uvmathletics.com.
The Catamounts lost their first eight contests before getting into the win column with a 1-0 win over Siena on Sept. 23. In their most recent contest, they dropped a 3-1 contest to Maine in their conference opener last Saturday.
Senior Alana Izzo leads the Catamounts in points (8), goals (2) and assists (4) while classmate Taylor Silvestro and junior Colleen Slaughter have added two goals apiece.
In goal, junior Stephanie Zygmunt has started all 10 games and sports a 3.48 goals-against average and a .719 save percentage.
BU is coming off a tough 3-2 loss to No. 3 Connecticut last Sunday, but was a 2-1 victor in its conference opener at No. 22 Albany last Friday.
The Terriers continue to boast a balanced scoring attack with seven players with four or more points. That group is led by senior Jacinda McLeod, who has team highs in both points (10) and goals (5). Reigning America East Player of the Week Tabi Hatch, another senior, has eight points on four goals. Junior Ella Gunson also has recorded eight points thanks in large part to a team-best six assists.
The Terriers boast one of the nation's best goalkeeping units, as senior Jess Maroney and sophomore Valentina Cerda have combined for a 1.49 goals-against average. Maroney ranks second in the nation in save percentage (.841) and fourth in GAA (1.20).
The Terriers are 30-3-1 all-time against UVM with wins in the last six meetings. Last season, a goal by Nicole van Oosterom was the difference maker in a 1-0 home victory over the Catamounts.
