BOSTON - Junior midfielder Ella Gunson and senior back Jacinda McLeod have been named Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Americans, as announced on Tuesday. Gunson earned a spot on the second team while McLeod was selected to the third team after collecting second-team honors last season.
Gunson becomes the first player in program history to earn All-America honors in her first year as a Terrier. With McLeod's accolades the past two seasons she joins a list of just six other Terriers who have earned multiple All-America recognition in their careers.
This marks the 10th season that BU has had at least two All-Americans with the last coming in 2007, when the Terriers had one player on all three teams.
The two Whangarei, New Zealand, natives helped BU post a record of 12-6 this season while coming up just short of at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. Both were named to the NFHCA Northeast All-Region First Team and the America East All-Conference First Team.
Gunson, a Massey University transfer and a 2012 Olympian, enjoyed a standout season, leading the Terriers in goals (9) and assists (7) en route to being named America East Midfielder of the Year. She led all America East players in both points (11) and goals (5) in league play and all nine of her tallies this season came in the final eight contests.
One of the top backs in school history, McLeod recorded seven goals, including three game-winners, in an injury-shortened season to finish with 72 career points on 30 goals and 12 assists. She was the anchor for a defense that boasted a 1.44 goals-against average this year and ends her career as the only two-time America East Defensive Player of the Year. She is one of only two players in America East history to be named to the conference first team four straight seasons.
