The No. 11 Boston University field hockey team (5-2) will look to get back to its winning ways on Tuesday (Sept. 18) when it travels across the state to take on Massachusetts (3-4) at Garber Field. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
After opening their season with five straight wins to match the best start in program history, the Terriers have dropped their last two contests, both by shutout. Most recently, BU suffered a 1-0 loss on the road against William & Mary on Friday.
The Minutewomen got off to a great start, earning wins over three ranked opponents in their first four contests. However, they have lost three straight games coming into Tuesday's contest.
UMass also last played on Friday, falling victim to No. 7 Northeastern by a score of 4-3 in its fifth overtime game of the season. The Minutewomen are 0-2 at home thus far.
Senior Kim Young leads UMass in both points (10) and goals (4) and shares the team lead in assists (2). Junior Hannah Prince has added five points on two goals and an assist while senior Thando Zono has contributed a pair of tallies.
Freshman Sam Carlino has played every minute in goal through the first seven contests and sports a 2.26 goals-against average and a .630 save percentage.
UMass has a slim 85-84 advantage in shot this season but has earned 41 corners while giving up 46.
The BU offense will look to shake its recent slump. Eleven of BU's 13 goals this season have been scored by seniors, including a team-best four from Jacinda McLeod.
BU holds an 18-14-2 advantage in its all-time series with the Minutewomen and has won the last nine meetings, including a 3-0 road victory last season. UMass' last victory over the Terriers came in 2001 in Boston.
