The Boston University field hockey team (7-4, 2-1 Patriot League) returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 12) when it visits Lehigh (2-10, 0-2) for a Patriot League contest at Ulrich Field. The game, which starts at noon, will be broadcast live on the Patriot League Network.
Saturday marks the first-ever meeting between BU and Lehigh. The Terriers have won their last three games away from New Balance Field and are currently in third place in the Patriot League standings. BU is coming off a hard-fought 3-1 home loss to then-No. 13 Massachusetts on Sunday.
Looking to snap a seven-game losing streak, the Mountain Hawks have dropped both of their conference games this season by scores of 4-1 to Bucknell and Lafayette.
Lehigh, who has shutout victories this season against Towson and Georgetown, has been enjoying a standout rookie season by Marissa Glatt. The freshman leads the squad in points (19) and goals (9) and has both of the Mountain Hawks' game-winning tallies.
Fellow freshman Gabby Tofig has recorded 10 points (4g, 2a) and sophomore Lindsey Schott and senior Caitlyn Mitchell have scored three goals apiece.
Freshman Julia Ward has started all 12 games for Lehigh this season and has a .740 save percentage to go along with a 3.13 goals-against average.
BU is paced by three players with 10 points apiece this season. Freshman Amanda Cassera and sophomore Sofi Laurito have each registered five goals while senior Anne Fruitema has four goals and two assists. Senior Ysi Schieb has seven points, including a team-best five assists.
The Terrier defense went seven straight games without allowing more than one goal before Sunday's setback against UMass. That success can be largely attributed to junior goalkeeper Valentina Cerda Eimbcke, who boasts a 1.23 goals-against average and a .794 save percentage.
