
Godett's Game-Winner Lifts BU Past Harvard, 12-11

BOSTON – Junior Sydney Godett scored on a free position shot with 11 seconds remaining for the Boston University women’s lacrosse team to complete a 12-11 come-from-behind victory over Harvard Friday night at Nickerson Field.
The Terriers snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory to move to 3-5 (0-1 America East) on the season while Harvard drops to 2-5 on the year.
BU faced a 6-0 deficit after the first 15 minutes of the game but managed to cut Harvard’s lead to 8-5 at the half. In the second period, BU knotted the game at 10-10 and later at 11-11, before taking its only lead of the night following Godett’s tally with 11 seconds to play.
Senior Danielle Etrasco led the Terriers with four goals and an assist for five points while Godett was second on the team with three points (2g, 1a). Junior Elizabeth Morse and senior Kristen Mogavero each added a pair of tallies while sophomore Kelsey Marafioti scored the first two goals of her career.
Junior Christina Sheridan finished with 12 saves and a team-high five ground balls.
Harvard held a 17-8 advantage in draw controls and committed 16 turnovers, compared to 13 for the Terriers.
The Crimson opened the game with six unanswered goals before freshman Remy Nolan controlled the draw to give BU possession. After a foul on Harvard, Morse converted on a free position shot to get BU on the board with 14:45 to play. Harvard responded on the other end with a free position shot of its own to go up 7-1 with 13:00 to play in the first half.
Etrasco scored her first goal of the night with 6:03 remaining in the half to spark a 4-0 run by the Terriers. Mogavero found the back of the net nine seconds later with an assist from Godett to make it a 7-3 game before Etrasco and Mogavero each scored again to cut Harvard’s lead to 7-5 with 1:43 left in the half.
Harvard closed out the first period with a goal from Audrey Todd with 20 seconds remaining to take an 8-5 lead into the break. The Crimson then added a tally just 26 seconds in to the second period to extend their advantage to 9-5.
Etrasco netted her third goal of the night off a free position shot with 27:13 on the clock and Godett scored her first marker of the game less than a minute later to cut Harvard’s lead to 9-7. Etrasco got on the board again with 24:28 to play to make it a one-goal game, 9-8.
Todd’s second goal of the game put the Crimson ahead by two, 10-8, with 23:17 to go. Almost 10 minutes went by before Morse scored her second of the game to bring BU within one, 10-9, with 14:30 to play.
Marafioti then netted the first goal of her career with an assist from sophomore Jenna Boarman to tie the game with 11:50 on the clock. The Crimson regained a one-goal advantage with 7:10 to go before Marafioti found the back of the net again with an assist from Etrasco with 4:50 to play.
Harvard won the ensuing draw control but turned the ball over to the Terriers with 1:57 to play. Godett drew the foul and scored the game-winning goal with 11 seconds remaining to give the Terriers their only lead of the night, 12-11.
The Crimson won the final draw control of the night and fired one last shot at Sheridan but the junior came up with the save to preserve BU’s 12-11 victory.
BU concludes its three-game homestand on Wednesday (April 3) when the Terriers host America East foe Albany at Nickerson Field. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
