Etrasco, Robins Earn America East Weekly Honors
BOSTON - Looking for its third straight victory, the Boston University women’s lacrosse team travels to Durham, N.H., on Wednesday (April 16) to take on the New Hampshire Wildcats. Game time is set for 4 p.m. in Cowell Stadium.
BU (5-6, 2-2) is 22-12 all-time against New Hampshire (4-9, 1-3 AE) and has won 14 of the last 15 meetings with the one loss coming in 2011, when the Wildcats edged the Terriers, 13-12 in overtime. Last season, BU defeated New Hampshire, 13-8, at Nickerson Field.
The Terriers have scored at least 20 goals in their last two games, marking the first time the feat has been accomplished in back-to-back contests in program history. After posting a 20-17 come-from-behind victory at Vermont on April 6, the Terriers dominated Binghamton, 21-12, on Saturday for BU’s Senior Day. The Terriers have now eclipsed 20 goals twice in a season for the first time since the 2006 campaign.
A pair of seniors led the Terriers offense on Saturday, as Danielle Etrasco and Kristen Mogavero each scored six goals while Etrasco added two assists. Etrasco leads the Terriers with 43 goals and ranks second in Division I with 3.91 goals per game. She is tied with sophomore Lindsay Weiner for the team lead with 12 assists and boasts a team-high 55 points on the season. Mogavero is second on the squad with 25 goals while junior Elizabeth Morse is behind her with 18 goals.
Etrasco was honored for her performance against Binghamton with her second America East Offensive Player of the Week award while freshman Sofia Robins garnered her first Rookie of the Week accolade after posting a career-high three points off a goal and two assists.
Etrasco also leads the Terriers with 30 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers while freshman Jill Horka is second with 21 draw controls and 15 caused turnovers.
Senior Kim Elsworth got her first start of the season against Binghamton but junior Christina Sheridan has seen the majority of the time between the pipes this season, with an 11.74 goals-against average and a .451 save percentage.
New Hampshire looks to snap a two-game skid on Wednesday, as the Wildcats are coming off loses to Boston College (10-9) and Stony Brook (16-6) on Saturday. New Hampshire’s lone America East win came against Binghamton with a 13-12 decision on April 6.
Senior Jenny Simpson leads the Wildcats’ attack with 35 goals and four assists for 39 points while sophomore Laura Puccia is second on the team with 23 tallies. Freshman Laura McHoul boasts a team-high 25 assists to go with 13 goals.
Puccia leads the team with 36 draw controls while sophomore Kayleigh Hinkle is just behind her with 31. Senior goalkeeper Kathleen O’Keefe has collected a team-high 28 ground balls while junior Cori Rees is second on the team with 24.
O’Keefe has played the majority of the minutes in goal for the Wildcats and owns an 11.69 goals against average and a .439 save percentage.
Following Wednesday’s game, the Terriers will travel to Long Island to face No. 10/10 Stony Brook on Saturday (April 20). Game time is set for 1 p.m. in Stony Brook, N.Y.
