
Terriers to Host Lehigh, No. 7 UConn This Weekend

BOSTON - The Boston University field hockey team (6-5, 1-1 Patriot League) enters its lone two-game home weekend of the season, as it will face Lehigh on Saturday (Oct. 11) in a Patriot League game before hosting No. 7 Connecticut on Sunday.
Saturday's tilt against the Mountain Hawks will start at noon while the game against the Huskies will begin at 2 p.m. The UConn game will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network, but rain has forced a cancellation of Saturday's production.
BU is coming off back-to-back wins, first posting a 3-1 win over Harvard on Sunday in Sally Starr's 400th victory as head coach at BU before topping Providence, 2-1, on the road on Wednesday.
Lehigh enters the weekend with an overall record of 4-8 and a 1-2 conference mark. The Mountain Hawks had a three-game win streak snapped last weekend with losses to Colgate (2-1) and Fairfield (4-0).
Sophomore Gabby Tofig leads Lehigh in both points (14) and goals (7) while junior Lindsey Schott has added 11 points on four goals and three assists.
In goal, sophomore Julia Ward, who made 17 saves last season against BU, has started all 12 games thus far in 2014 and has a 3.29 goals-against average and a .708 save percentage.
BU earned a 3-1 victory at Lehigh last season in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
UConn blanked No. 19 Old Dominion, 4-0, on Friday and will head into Sunday's match with an 8-2 record. The Huskies' losses came against North Carolina and Stanford, who are currently ranked first and seventh in the country, respectively.
Sophomore Anna Middendorf and freshman Charlotte Veitner - both Germany natives - are tied for the team lead in points at 13 as each of them have five goals and three assists this fall. Junior Roisin Upton has added 12 points on three goals and six assists.
Redshirt freshman Nina Klein has been strong in the UConn goal this season, boasting a 0.75 goals-against average and a .750 save percentage.
The Terriers will be looking to snap a five-game losing streak in its series versus UConn. BU is 8-27 all-time against the Huskies.
Amanda Cassera has shown no signs of a sophomore slump for BU this season, posting a team-high 14 points thanks to six goals and a pair of assists. Classmate Hester van der Laan has added nine points (4g, 1a) and junior Sofi Laurito has eight points on two goals and two assists. Van der Laan and freshman Allie Renzi each have registered three defensive saves.
Senior captain Valentina Cerda Eimbcke sports a 1.99 goals-against average to go along with a .709 save percentage.
BU's six game-winning goals this season have come from five different players.
