BOSTON - After a weekend that included wins over the ACC regular-season champion and the defending Patriot League champion, Boston University swept the four weekly Corvias Patriot League field hockey awards, as announced by the conference office Monday.
BU earned a 3-1 road win at American on Friday to secure sole possession of second place in the conference standings. On Sunday, the Terriers returned home and pulled off a 2-1 upset of eighth-ranked Virginia.
Sofi Laurito, who scored both goals in the win over the Cavaliers, was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week. The junior opened the scoring with an incredible individual effort before doubling lead with a goal off a corner.
Three members of the BU defense picked up accolades after allowing just one goal in each win. The Terriers allowed only seven shots in each victory and their two opponents combined for just five corners.
Junior back Rachel Coll was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring that effort and also contributing three points. She scored an insurance goal against American before assisting on Laurito's second tally versus the Cavaliers.
Freshman Allie Renzi received the first Patriot League honor of her career, as the rookie back picked up Rookie of the Week accolades. Her performances were instrumental in limiting the offensive chances for the Eagles and Cavaliers.
For the second time in as many weeks and for the sixth time in her career, senior Valentina Cerda Eimbcke was named the Goalkeeper of the Week. She recorded four saves in both wins and the only goal Virginia scored came on a corner after regulation expired.
BU will close its regular season on Saturday (Nov. 1) when it host Colgate at New Balance Field. Game time is set for noon.
