BOSTON - Three members of the Patriot League champion Boston University field hockey team have earned 2014 Longstreth/NFHCA Northeast All-Region honors, as announced on Monday.
Junior Sofi Laurito (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and sophomore Hester van der Laan (Amsterdam, Netherlands) were selected to the Northeast Region First Team while senior goalkeeper Valentina Cerda Eimbcke (Santiago, Chile) collected second-team accolades.
Laurito, who was a second-team selection last year as a sophomore, was the 2014 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year. As the catalyst for the Terrier offense, she totaled 18 points on six goals and six assists in 19 games. The midfielder scored both goals in a 2-1 triumph over ACC regular-season champion Virigina and three of her tallies on the year were game-winners.
With 17 points on seven goals and three assists in addition to three defensive saves, van der Laan turned in a standout sophomore season in the Terrier midfield. She was a All-Patriot League First Team selection and scored two game-winners in conference play. In the season opener against Northwesten, van der Laan scored a pair of goals.
Now a two-time Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, Cerda Eimbcke finished her stellar career with an impressive season in the BU cage. She posted a .761 save percentage, which ranks 11th in the country, to go along with a 1.50 goals-against average. Her seven-save performance in the conference championship capped an 11-game stretch where she did not allow more than one regulation goal in any of the contests.
The Terriers posted a 13-8 record on the year and claimed their first Patriot League crown to earn the program's 11th bid to the NCAA tournament.
