Women's Lacrosse Volunteers at Salvation Army on Saturday
November 22, 2014 | Women's Lacrosse
The Boston University women's lacrosse team volunteered at the Salvation Army's Thanksgiving meal distribution in Boston's South End on Saturday. This year marked the fourth-consecutive Thanksgiving season in which the women's lacrosse team donated their time to help feed the less fortunate.
The team arrived at the Salvation Army's Washington Street location at 10 a.m. and got to work on an assembly line in a room filled with groceries. The student-athletes packed hundreds of bags with potatoes, carrots, onions, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, and pie.
“It was a fun and rewarding experience to be able to help families in need during the Thanksgiving season with the Salvation Army," said sophomore Charlotte Castronovo. “It is always great to get out into the Boston community and volunteer, especially during the holidays.”
By noon, a line of families formed outside the building on Washington Street. The families were escorted inside, greeted by BU women's lacrosse players and given a bag of groceries along with a roasting pan and a frozen turkey. By 1 p.m., hundreds of turkey dinners were given out along with countless amounts of goodwill.
