All-Patriot League Honorees | No. 3 BU Hosts No. 6 Lehigh for PL Quarterfinal Tuesday
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Four members of the Boston University women’s lacrosse team have earned All-Patriot League honors, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Senior Christie Hart and sophomore Jill Horka each earned a spot on the All-Patriot League First Team while senior Becca Church and junior Lindsay Weiner received All-Patriot League Second Team accolades. BU posted a 5-3 record in conference play during its inaugural season in the Patriot League and earned the No. 3 seed in the six-team Patriot League Tournament.
After earning America East Second Team and All-Rookie honors last season, Horka was rewarded with a spot on the Patriot League First Team following her stellar sophomore campaign. The Westborough, N.Y., native is tied for second on the team with 18 goals to go along with five assists for 23 points. The midfielder has posted at least one point in the Terriers’ last 12 games to own the longest point-streak on the team. She also leads the team in draw controls (36), ground balls (29) and caused turnovers 21).
Joining Horka on the All-League First Team is Hart, who has earned the first All-Conference honor of her career after starting all 16 games on defense for BU. The two-time tri-captain is the leader of BU’s defense and ranks third on the squad with 25 ground balls. She has also totaled 13 caused turnovers and a pair of draw controls. Often matched-up against an opponent’s top scorer, she has defended some of the nation’s best players. In BU’s 9-8 upset over number 14 Navy, she held one of the nation’s leading scorers without a point en route to earning her first Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Placed on the second team, Church earns the first All-Conference accolade of her career after her standout senior season. The midfielder is tied for the team lead with 20 goals and has dished out four assists to rank second on the Terriers with 24 points. The Madison, Conn., native posted multi-goal performances in six games this season, including a career-high four goal output in the Terriers’ win at Lafayette. Church also ranks second on the team in ground balls (26), draw controls (20) and caused turnovers (18).
Also earning her first conference honor is Weiner, who joins Church on the All-League Second Team. The junior has started all 16 games at attack for BU and leads the team in points (31) and assists (15) and ranks third with 16 goals. Weiner has posted at least two points in six straight games and has recorded a point in all but three contests this season. The Ridgewood, N.J., native has also totaled seven ground balls, seven draw controls and three caused turnovers for the Terriers.
BU is set to make its Patriot League Tournament debut on Tuesday (April 22), when the No. 3 Terriers will host No. 6 Lehigh in a quarterfinal match-up at Nickerson Field. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
