
Terriers Travel to Colgate on Wednesday

BOSTON – The Boston University women’s lacrosse team continues with Patriot League play on Wednesday (April 9) when the Terriers travel to Hamilton, N.Y., to face Colgate. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
Checking in at No. 24 in the first official RPI ranking of the season, BU (6-6, 4-1 Patriot League) has won five of its last six games and looks to rebound from a 12-11 double-overtime loss to Lehigh. Colgate (4-7, 2-3 PL) looks to snap a two-game losing streak that includes losses to No. 20 Navy (13-2) and No. 14 Loyola (10-4).
Currently tied for second in the Patriot League standings with No. 20 Navy, BU can clinch a spot in the six-team Patriot League tournament with a win on Wednesday. No. 14 Loyola has already claimed a spot in the tournament that begins with the quarterfinals on April 22, with the No. 6 seed at the No. 3 seed and the No. 5 seed at No. 4. The winners of those two games will join the top two teams at the site of the No. 1 seed for the semifinals on April 25 and the championship on April 27.
The Terriers are 4-2 all-time against Colgate in a series that began in 1982. The teams last met in the first round of the 2005 NCAA tournament, where BU advanced with a 12-6 victory. Prior to that postseason match-up, the Terriers and the Raiders had not played since the 1987 season.
BU boasts a well-balanced offensive attack with five players recording 12 or more goals on the season and seven players registering at least 10 points. Senior Becca Church has scored a team-high 18 goals while junior Lindsay Weiner leads BU with 13 assists. Church has tallied at least one goal in eight of BU’s last nine games while sophomore Jill Horka (14g, 4a) has posted at least one point in nine straight contests.
Horka also leads BU with 21 draw controls and 17 caused turnovers while ranking second on the team with 23 ground balls.
The Terriers have started freshman Caroline Meegan in goal in their last 11 games but senior Christina Sheridan has also been earning playing time. Meegan owns a 10.65 goals against average and .419 save percentage while Sheridan has an 8.75 goals against average and .455 save percentage.
Colgate is led by junior Megan Ark, who ranks second in the PL with 2.73 goals per game and has 30 tallies on the season. Sophomore Kallan Murray is the top helper for the Raiders with a team-high 16 assists while a total of seven players have reached double-digits in points scored for Colgate.
As a team, the Raiders lead the Patriot League with 21.27 ground balls per game and are second in the conference with 10.27 caused turnovers per game, led by junior Jenna Frosts 23 takeaways.
Junior Jennie Berglin has started all 11 games in goal for the Raiders and owns a 10.64 goals-against average with a .431 save percentage.
BU will return to Nickerson Field on Saturday (April 12) to host No. 14 Loyola at 1 p.m. Saturday is BU Youth Lacrosse Day and all youth lacrosse teams can receive free admission to the game.
