BOSTON – Senior Christie Hart of the Boston University women’s lacrosse team has earned Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Northeast All-Region Second Team honors as announced by the organization on Monday afternoon.
Hart receives the first IWLCA All-Region honor of her career and was one of eight players from the Patriot League to be recognized.
As an All-Patriot League First Team honoree, Hart was one of three players to start all 20 games for the Terriers, as BU finished the season with a 9-11 record (5-3 Patriot League) and advanced to the Patriot League Championship game.
The two-time tri-captain ranked second on the team with 32 ground balls and totaled 14 caused turnovers. She was the leader of the BU defense that held nine opponents to 10 goals or fewer including a five-game winning streak when the Terriers allowed only 7.2 goals per game.
Often matched-up against an opponent’s top scorer, Hart was faced with the tall task of shutting down some of the nation’s best players. In BU’s 9-8 upset over No. 14 Navy, she held one of the nation’s leading scorers without a point en route to earning her first Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honor on March 24.
Hart becomes the 26th player during head coach Liz Robertshaw’s eight-year tenure to earn All-Region honors.
The IWLCA honored 128 student-athletes in Division I with a selection on one of the All-Regional teams for 2014. These student-athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Monday, May 19.
