
BU Hosts No. 5 Boston College on Saturday

BOSTON – The Boston University women’s lacrosse team will host crosstown rival No. 5/6 Boston College on Saturday (May 3) at Nickerson Field in the Terriers’ final game of the season. Opening draw is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
Saturday is the BU women’s lacrosse annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game. There will be raffles with all proceeds being donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization. Raffle items include 50 piece Raising Cane’s Tailgates, BU Lacrosse pinnies and gear, season tickets for the 2015 season and much more! Raising Cane’s will also be on hand pregame giving away free samples.
BU (9-10, 5-3 Patriot League) is 11-8-1 all-time against BC (12-5, 3-4 ACC) but the Eagles have claimed a win in the last four meetings, including a 12-9 victory in Chestnut Hill last year. Saturday will mark the 11th straight season that the Comm Ave rivals will meet on the field.
The Terriers are coming off their run to the Patriot League Championship game in their first season as members of the league. BU earned the No. 3 seed in the six-team field and defeated No. 6 Lehigh, 14-9, in the quarterfinals before posting a thrilling 13-12 victory in the final seconds over No. 2 Navy, the four-time defending Patriot League Champions, in the semifinals. BU ultimately fell to top-seed and 12th-ranked Loyola, 18-7, in the title game last Saturday.
All-Patriot League First Team honoree sophomore Jill Horka leads BU with 28 goals and is second on the team with 34 points. Junior Lindsay Weiner, an All-League Second Team selection, leads the Terriers in points (38) and assists (18). Both Horka and Weiner were named to the PL All-Tournament Team along with senior Becca Church, who was also an All-League Second Team member with 25 goals and 30 points on the season.
Senior Christie Hart, an All-League First Team honoree, is the anchor of the BU defense and is tied with Church for the team lead in ground balls (32) while causing 14 turnovers. Horka leads the Terriers in caused turnovers (24) and has a team-high 42 draw controls.
The goalkeeping tandem of senior Christina Sheridan and freshman Caroline Meegan has combined to hold opponents to 11.20 goals per game. Sheridan has made seven starts in goal, including the last four games, and owns a .373 save percentage while Meegan has started 12 of the 16 games that she has played in and posted a .409 save percentage.
The Eagles most recently competed in the ACC tournament, where they fell to No. 4 North Carolina, 14-10, last Thursday. Playing in the highly competitive ACC, BC went 9-0 against non-conference opponents.
Junior Covie Stanwick (39g, 32a) leads the Eagles with 71 points while classmate Mikala Rix has a team-high 51 goals. Sophomore Sarah Mannelly is second on the team with 41 tallies. Two other Eagles, grad student Brooke Blue (26g) and senior Moira Barry (30g) have also led the BC offense that averages 13.24 goals per game.
Junior Emily Mata has played every game in goal for BC and owns a 10.38 goals against average with a .305 save percentage.
