2014-15 U.S. Women's Team Tryout Pool Announced (US Lacrosse)
BALTIMORE - Jill Horka of the Boston University women's lacrosse team and former BU standout Danielle Etrasco ('13) were named to the 88-player tryout pool for the 2014-15 U.S. Women's National Team as announced by US Lacrosse on Wednesday.
Horka and Etrasco will participate in the three-day tryouts to be held from June 13 to 15 at Georgetown University in hopes of being selected as one of the 36-40 players that will train as part of the U.S. Women's National Team in preparation for the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's World Cup in Surrey, England. Ultimately, 18 players will represent the U.S. as the team goes for a third consecutive and eighth overall world title.
Etrasco is one of 11 players from the squad that won gold at the 2013 FIL World Cup in Oshawa, Ontario, to return to try out. The two-time All-American became the first Terrier to play in the World Cup and netted a hat trick for Team USA in its 19-5 win over Canada in the championship game last July.
Horka earned her invitation to tryout after a stellar sophomore season with the Terriers. The midfielder led BU in goals (29), draw controls (46) and caused turnovers (24) this spring while ranking second on the squad with 35 points and 31 ground balls. She was named to the All-Patriot League First Team and was a member of the All-Tournament Team after leading BU to the Patriot League title game in its first year as a member of the conference.
Etrasco and Horka will have a familiar face on the sideline as BU head coach Liz Robertshaw returns to Team USA as an assistant coach. Robertshaw has been a member of the U.S. Women's National Team staff since 2009 and oversaw the team's offensive unit during last year's World Cup Championship.
