CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The No. 17 Boston University field hockey team was well-represented in Monday's Corvias Patriot League Field Hockey Weekly Awards, as Terriers collected three of the four.
Freshman Ally Hammel was named Rookie of the Week, junior Cammy Jensen was tabbed Goalkeeper of the Week and senior co-captain Rachel Coll repeated as Defensive Player of the Week.
BU posted a 6-1 win at Holy Cross on Friday before putting together a valiant effort against No. 4 Duke on Sunday, as the Blue Devils escaped Boston with a 1-0 overtime win.
The Terriers are now in sole possession of first place in the Patriot League standings with a record of 4-0. They are the first team to clinch a spot in the league tournament.
Hammel was the story on Friday, recording a first-half hat trick against the Crusaders. She followed up a rebound to open the scoring in the 16th minute and then converted a direct insert off a corner just over five minutes later. The rookie took advantage of another rebound with 11 seconds left in the opening half to complete the hat trick.
Jensen combined to make six saves over the weekend while allowing just one goal each contest. She made a pair of stops in Friday's win in Worcester before making four saves against Duke, keeping the Blue Devils scoreless through regulation. Jensen had a 0.91 goals-against average over the two games and now leads the Patriot League with a 1.79 mark for the season.
Coll anchored the Terriers' strong defensive effort over the weekend and added an assist in Friday's triumph at Holy Cross, allowing her to repeat as Defensive Player of the Week. BU limited Holy Cross to just three shots on goal and then allowed only five - only three in regulation - against the Blue Devils on Sunday.
