STORRS, Conn. - The No. 17 Boston University field hockey team ran into one of the top teams in the nation on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 5-0 road contest to No. 2 Connecticut at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.

The Terriers held the nation's leading goal-scorer, Charlotte Veitner, without a tally, but Casey Umstead recorded a hat trick to pace the Huskies, who remained undefeated at 15-0. BU now stands at 10-5 on the year.

Sophomore Allie Renzi notched a pair of defensive saves for the Terriers to help junior goalkeeper Cammy Jensen, who made four stops in the contest.

Faced with a 2-0 deficit at halftime, the Terriers outcornered the Huskies, 5-2, in the second half, but could not solve the UConn defense, which posted its seventh straight shutout.

Nina Klein made three saves in goal for UConn but needed a Roisin Upton defensive save on a shot by junior Hester van der Laan in the final minute of regulation to keep BU off the board.

For the game, the Huskies held a 14-6 advantage in shots and earned seven corners to the Terriers' five.

Upton and Umstead scored early off corners in the 5th and 11th minutes, respectively, to give the home team a 2-0 lead at the half.

Umstead picked up her second tally just 1:48 into the second half. Soon after, Amelia Iacobucci and Umstead scored less than a minute apart to make it 5-0 contest 42 minutes into the game.

BU will return to action on Saturday (Oct. 24) when it plays host to Bucknell. With a win, the Terriers would secure a perfect record in Patriot League play and earn the right to host the league tournament. Game time is 1 p.m.
