No. 15 Field Hockey Tops Harvard, 3-2

ALLSTON, Mass. - Senior Sofi Laurito recorded two goals and set up another to push the No. 15 Boston University field hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Harvard on Wednesday evening at the Harvard Field Hockey Stadium.
The Terriers took a 2-0 lead into halftime and Laurito stretched the advantage to 3-0 in the 61st minute. The Crimson scored off a corner with 2:59 left in regulation and was awarded a penatly stroke as time expired that was converted to create the 3-2 final.
BU improves to 12-5 on the year while Harvard moves to an even 7-7.
Laurito opened the scoring in the 12th minute when she penetrated the circle and created space before drilling a reverse-stick shot past Harvard netminder Issy Davies.
Later in the opening half, Laurito helped to double the lead when she found junior Sara Martineau for a tip-in at the 26:37. It was Martineau's second tally of the season.
BU earned the lone corner of the opening half and held a 5-2 shot advantage at halftime.
Laurito completed her five-point night at 60:07 when a deflected pass made her way to her at the top of the circle. The senior one-timed the ball to the top of the boards for her 11th goal of the season.
Harvard earned all four of their corners in the second half and used the final one to spoil the shutout bid of BU goalkeeper Cammy Jensen. Elizabeth Jacobsen spun around before firing a backhand that eluded Jensen at the 67:01 mark to make it 3-1.
The Crimson threatened again in the closing of seconds of regulation and earned a stroke right before the horn sounded. Marissa Balleza targeted the top left corner of the goal and converted the try to make the 3-2 final look much closer than was.
The home team held slim advantages in both shots (11-8) and corners (4-2).
Jensen made three saves for the Terriers while Davies stopped one Terrier shot for the Crimson.
BU will close out the regualr season on Sunday (Nov. 1) when it visits No. 5 Wake Forest for a 1 p.m. contest.
