December 7, 2015 | Field Hockey
BOSTON - Senior co-captains Sofi Laurito and Rachel Coll of the Boston University field hockey team have been named Longstreth/NFHCA All-Americans, as announced by the NFHCA on Monday.
After earning second-team honors a year ago, Laurito earned a spot on the NFHCA First Team, becoming just the seventh Terrier to make the top squad. Coll was named to the third team, earning her first All-America accolade in the process.
Laurito becomes just the eighth two-time All-American in program history and is the first Terrier to be a first-team selection since Pam Spuehler in 2007. With both co-captains earning All-America honors, this marks the 11th season in which BU has had multiple All-Americans.
The Patriot League Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, Laurito and Coll led BU to back-to-back league titles and a return trip to the NCAA tournament.
One of the most dynamic offensive players in the country, Laurito led the Terriers with team highs in points (35) and goals (16) and was on the All-Patriot League First Team for the third straight season. She finished her stellar career ranked tied for fourth all-time at BU in goals with 32 and began the year by being selected to the Patriot League 25th Anniversary Team.
Coll, a Patriot League All-Academic Team honoree, led a dominant defense for the Terriers, who allowed only five goals in Patriot League games and finished with a 1.89 goals against average for the season. A two-time All-Patriot League selection (2015 First Team, 2014 Second Team), Coll was the insert for every BU corner this year and put up 15 points on five goals and five assists.
The Terriers finished the 2015 season with a record of 15-7 and were ranked 13th in the final NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI).
