LEWISBURG, Pa. - Led by Jill Horka's hat trick, the Boston University women's lacrosse team came back to take an 11-9 victory at Bucknell on Saturday afternoon. The Terriers (7-8, 5-3 PL) had previously clinched the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Tournament prior to their game against the Bison (2-15, 0-8 PL).
Horka came in at the start of the second half and scored three goals within the first 11 minutes to help BU come back from a three-goal halftime deficit. She also corralled four draw controls to become tied for second on the Boston University season draw controls list with 56. Horka continues to climb the career list with 133 draw controls, which ranks fifth all-time.
Mallory Collins reached a career milestone against the Bison, reaching her 100th goal when she caught a high pass from Taylor Hardison and shot it underhand past the Bucknell goalkeeper during the first half.
Ally Adams also contributed three points, scoring two goals and assisting on another. Louisa Del Rio collected her first goal of the season on her second half strike while Mickenzie Larivee had her second two-goal performance of the season.
As a team, the Terriers caused 14 turnovers, one shy of their season high, and picked up a season best 20 ground balls.
Caroline Meegan made seven saves throughout the game including five during the team's second-half comeback.
Bucknell came out of the gate with a purpose on their senior day and quickly racked up a four-goal lead just over ten minutes into the game. The Terriers finally had an answer midway through the first half when Sofia Robins scored on a free position attempt but the Bison didn't stop pressuring and went into halftime with a 5-2 lead.
Sparked by Horka's aggressive offensive effort, BU was able to score the next five goals within the first seven minutes of the second half to take its first lead of the game. Horka scored two of her three and Larivee had both of her scores during the effort while Jenna Boarman contributed one of her own.
The teams exchanged goals for the ensuing seven minutes until the Terriers went on one more run to seal their victory. Del Rio started what would become a three-goal stretch for BU netting the game-winning strike. Adams scored all three of her points during the run, assisting on the game-winner.
The Terriers head home for the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Tournament, which they host on Tuesday, April 21 at 3 p.m. on Nickerson Field. Lehigh will be BU's opponent after defeating Holy Cross on Friday night.
