
No. 17 Terriers Fall to No. 2 Syracuse, 5-1

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Freshman Ally Hammel scored her third goal of the year and junior Cammy Jensen made a career-high 10 saves but the No. 17 Boston University field hockey team dropped a 5-1 contest to second-ranked Syracuse on Sunday afternoon at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
The Orange, which remained undefeated at 9-0, held a 1-0 halftime lead and broke open the game with the first four goals of the latter half. Hammel ended Syracuse's shutout bid with 3:23 left in regulation when her shot found the top corner of the cage.
Roos Weers had a seven-point afternoon for the Orange, recording a hat trick and an assist. Emma Russell provided the other two goals.
BU (6-3) got five saves in each half from Jensen while the Orange got a three-save performance from Jess Jecko. Shots on goal were 15-4 in Syracuse's favor and the home team earned eight corners while allowing only one.
Weers scored the lone goal of the first half before Russell made it a 2-0 contest just over three minutes into the second half. Off a corner, Weers scored again in the 46th minute before assisting on a Russel tally in the 56th minute. She capped her hat trick on at deflection at the 58:53 mark.
The Terriers will return to action on Saturday (Oct. 3) when they host American in a battle for first place in the Patriot League standings. Game time is set for noon.
