Andersen to Represent Israel at 2017 World Cup
November 22, 2016 | Women's Lacrosse
ASHKELON, Israel – Junior Sarah Andersen of the Boston University women's lacrosse team has been named to the roster for the Israel women's national team that will compete in the 2017 FIL Women's World Cup in England, as announced by Israel Lacrosse on Tuesday.
Andersen will become the second Terrier to represent a national team at an FIL Women's World Cup; Danielle Etrasco ('13) won gold with Team USA in 2013. There could potentially be three BU representatives at the 2017 edition of the tournament, as Etrasco is still in consideration for the U.S. squad that will have head coach Liz Robertshaw on the staff as an assistant coach.
"We are so excited to hear the news coming out of Israel Lacrosse with the World Cup team announcement," Robertshaw said. "Sarah has worked tirelessly to become a 'next-level' player and her inclusion on Israel's national team is a direct result of that focus and effort. We are thrilled to have Sarah represent both Team Israel and Boston University Lacrosse in next summer's World Cup, and we know she will continue to make us all proud."
A native of Coronado, California, Andersen earned her way onto the squad following a three-day tryout this summer in Be'er Sheva, Israel, and a set of fall exhibition games.
Andersen has been a major contributor for the Terriers in her two seasons in Scarlet and White. She started 14 of the Terriers' 18 games in 2016, scoring nine goals, winning eight draw controls, securing five ground balls and causing four turnovers, proving to be a valuable piece of the Terrier offense and defense.
